As the Rio 2016 Olympic Games gathers momentum with participating individuals from different countries intensifying training in preparation for the Games, Organizers of the Nigerian Sports Award (NSA), have urged Nigerian Contingents to Rio 2016 Olympics to put in their best and go for gold at their various specialized events.
According to the Executive Director of Unmissable Incentives, Mr. Kayode Idowu, the 86-man strong Nigerian Contingent participating in the Rio Games must ensure that they improve on the country’s past poor performances by defending well the country’s national colour at every point of the competition.
‘’Nigerians are expecting so much from Team Nigeria at Rio Games; they want every single athlete from the Nigerian soil win all available medals and dominate the different sports that they will be partaking in, this can only be achieved through strong focus and determination’’ he said.
The Rio 2016 Olympic Games also called Rio Games which takes place every four years, will mark its 64th anniversary since Team Nigeria’s debut participation at the Games in 1952. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games is scheduled to hold between 5th of August and 21st of August, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
NSA in its own unique way paid tribute to the legend, late Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, by providing the customized jerseys worn by ex-international football players for the novelty match played in his honour at the Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City – Edo State on Thursday July 28.
According to Ejiro Omonode, a member of the Nigerian Sports Award Panel, the gesture to honour late Stephen Keshi was to recognize him firstly as a legend, player and coach, secondly as a past winner of the Nigerian Sports Award.
Late Stephen Keshi was a recipient of the prestigious Nigerian Sports Award at the 2nd Edition of the Award in 2013, where he was conferred the Coach of the Year Award.
